This week we will continue to learn about families in reading and social studies. Here is a link for fun activities: The Picnic at Apple Park. Here is a link for parents information for this week: Families Week 2. Here is a link for books that relate to our theme of families. You should be able to find these at the library: Books about families.
Our new letter and sound is "A", number is 2-two, shape is triangle and color is green. Our new sight word is "the." Remember, if your child can spell the color, number or sight word for the week then he/she will get extra pennies on Friday. Another way for your child to earn extra pennies for treasure box is by reading the homework book extra times. Be sure to initial the post-it note on the book to let me know how many times your child read it. Try to remind your child to point to each word with his/her finger while reading. "Our fingers do the walking and our mouths do the talking."
In math we will continue to learn about numbers. We will learn to count and write numbers to five this week. Have your child count things this week at home. Some ideas are fingers, toes, cars, people, blocks, pennies, toys, cereal...the possibilities are endless. If they are comfortable counting to five, you can then ask them what is one more than a certain number, what is one less or fewer than a certain number. Or you can ask, "How many would you have if you took one away? How many would you have if you added one more?" Here are some rhymes we are learning to help the children remember how to correctly form each number. You can also look in your child's BEE Book to see the Handwriting Without Tears correct number formation and some different ways to remember it.
1: Straight line one is lots of fun.
2: Around and back on a choo choo track. 2, 2, 2.
3: Around the tree and around the tree. That's the way we make a 3.
4. Down and over (pick up your pencil) and down some more. That's the way we make a 4.
5. He's tall, he's fat and he wears a hat.
In science we will continue to learn about our five senses.
Remember, Friday is early dismissal because of Estuaries Day.
Thank you to all of the families who are helping by volunteering in our room and also to the parents who are helping by pulling papers out at home. If you would like to volunteer, whether it be daily, weekly, or monthly, just let me know. We are still looking for a volunteer to help with treasure box on Fridays. I appreciate all you are doing for our class.
