Apples, Apples, and More Apples.... Plus Info for Week of October 3rd

Next week we will start Unit 2 in reading and learn all about friends.  Here is a link for fun games about this unit.  What do you like?  Go here for the parent letter:  Friends Week 1.    Here is a link to great books to read with your child related to this topic: Books About Friends.   In math we will continue to learn about more and fewer.  This is Chapter 2 if you want to do activities on the Go Math website.  In science we will do activities with our sense of hearing and touch.  Our letter/sound is "s," color is orange, number is four and shape is rectangle.  Our new sight word is "like."

Don't forget to have your child wear a blue shirt on Monday to stomp out bullying!

Look at our kindergarteners using their sense of smell, sight and taste to explore apples and things made from apples.  (This was our "A" activity for the week).  They made applesauce today and then compared it to store-bought applesauce.  They tried red, green and yellow apples and decided which ones they liked.  They also compared and contrasted apple juice and apple cider.  I was very proud of them for trying the apple butter and apple chips. Everyone loved the applejacks!  We made a graph showing how many people liked each item and practiced more and fewer with this.   We also cut an apple in half and saw the star and the seeds inside the apple.  Thanks to everyone who sent in things so that we could do this activity.

Here are some more pictures of the show and tell with the chicks and also some of our math lesson today.  They are learning great things.
