I hope everyone had a wonderfully relaxing break. All of the students have done well this week getting back into the routine of things. We will start something new next week. The students will begin spelling tests. The will have spelling homework Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night. On Thursday they will take a spelling pre-test. If they make 100% they do not have to take the test on Friday and have no spelling homework that night. If they do not make 100%, then the homework will be to study and write the missed words on the pre-test three times each. Let me know if you have any questions about this. I know the students are up to this challenge.
Reading: Our new unit is about animals. The new sight word is "is." Here is a link to the parent letter: Animals Week 1. Here is a link for fun activities about this week: Mama Cat has Three Kittens.
Math: The next few weeks we will focus on learning about numbers 11-20. Your child should be able to tell you ten plus how many makes that number. For example, they should be able to know that 13 is 10 and 3 more, or 12 is 10 and 2 more. If you child can do that already, challenge them to find ways to make these numbers. For example, ask your child ways to make 14 ( 10 plus 4, 7 plus 7, 13 plus 1, 20 minus 6, etc.)
Here are some pictures from the last day before winter break. They students made rudolph cupcakes using vanilla wafers, m & m's, pretzels, and tootsie rolls. They did a great job.
